Weapon and Equipment Making Workshop

Today's first post contains notes and supply lists for an Equestrian Weapon and Equipment Making Workshop that I held in 2011 at Æthelmearc War Practice at Copper's Lake Campground, Portersville, PA.  Participants were sent the list as a guideline of what to bring in order to construct various weapons or equipment for use in SCA Equestrian activities.




Weapons:
Type:  Swords, boffer and padded rattan (and maces)

Materials: Schedule 40 PVC pipe and end caps, Insulation/closed cell padding, duct tape.
Tools:  Hacksaw, pipe gun

Type:   Ring lances
Materials:  Hardwood closet rod, bamboo stick, fiberglass pole, striping tape or paint
Tools:  Wood file or shaving tool.

Type:   Quintain lances
Materials:  Hardwood closet rod, Poltruded fiberglass rod, rubber crutch or commercial tips.
Tools:  Rubber hammer.
Type:   Throwing spears
Materials:  Rake handle, SKS bayonet, bolts.  Alternate---Spike or large nail.
Tools:  Wood saw, wrench, grinder, hammer.

Type: Birja spears
Materials:  Pine dowel, striping tape
Tools:  none

 Equipment:

Heads course owned by

Type: Head course
Materials:   Jump standards (4 or 6), PVC poles and portable bases; head bases-wood; heads-rolled foam, wig heads; cord or leather lanyards; timer poles if use 4 head poles.
 

Type: Rings
Materials:  Jump standards (3), PVC poles and portable bases; PVC poles for Ring T’s; Metal rings; ribbon; Velcro or magnets; wooden stick for ring stabilizers.

Type: Quintain
Materials:  Wood, pipe or bar stool swivel; weighted end or thickened crosss-piece.

Type: Spear targets
Materials:  Cardboard, hay bales

Type: Birja
Materials:  Portable base or concrete filled cat liter bucket, PVC pipe, Embroidery hoop.

Type: Reeds
Materials:  Portable holes or tiki torch holders, closet rod (ten 6’ pieces), velcro  or magnets, cord.
